Most apartment doors do not allow nails, screws or heavy wreath hangers, and that is where a lot of fall door decor goes wrong. A front door still looks seasonal with one wreath, one mat and one small pumpkin, and none of them needs a hole in the door.
Check what your building actually allows
Before buying anything, look at your lease or ask the property manager. Some buildings ban anything on the door, some only ban holes, and some have fire rules about what can sit in the hallway. If the door itself is off limits, you can still decorate the doormat and the floor beside it, as long as the walkway stays clear.
Hang a wreath without a single hole
An over-the-door hanger is the simplest option. Pick one with a padded hook, and measure the gap at the top of the door so it does not scratch or stop the door from closing. Adhesive hooks work too, but check the weight limit first, because a wreath with a lot of dried material can be heavier than it looks. A wreath about 16 to 20 inches wide suits most standard doors. Use small accents, not a full display
A small bundle of dried wheat tied with a ribbon on an adhesive hook looks good on a painted door, and it weighs almost nothing. In a shared hallway, keep any floor items small and set them close to the wall. Avoid real candles, stacked hay or anything that could block an exit.
Plan for the evening
